Are there any scholarships I can apply for?
No, there are no Swedish scholarships to apply for.
Can I work in Sweden during my studies?
If you are holder of a Swedish dental license you can apply for employment as a dentist. However, in general good proficiency in the Swedish language is required. Please also note that the postgraduate program is full-time and you will find that there is very little time left to work outside the program. Can I work in Sweden after my studies?
Dentists holding a dental license from another EU country can apply for Swedish dental licence from the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen). On completion of the program dentists with a Swedish licence can also apply for a qualification as a specialist. You will find information and application forms here.
How many dentists get admitted to the program?
In general there are 2-4 positions for international dentists.
Do I have to learn Swedish?
Learning Swedish is no requirement as our programs are held entirely in English. However, knowing a bit of Swedish is of course an advantage in everyday life and if you are interested, we can help you find a suitable Swedish course.
Will I get a Master of Science in dentistry?
For the time being the Institute of Odontology in Gothenburg does not offer a Master of Science program for international students.
I will graduate as a dentist this year, am I eligible for specialist training?
No. A minimum of two years of clinical experience (full-time) is required. You need to have received your dentist licence in order to count your experience towards the necessary two years.
Are there any opportunities for research?
There are research components included in both of our postgraduate programs. If you are interested in deeper studies, enrolling in a PhD program might also be possible. This can however not be decided upon acceptance to the postgraduate program but will have to be subject to discussion once you are enrolled.
