What does Cecilio Santander, Gastroenterologist, from Madrid and Brigitte Shmoll-Hauer, Nuclear medicine physician, from Vienna have in common? They have both been selected to participate in the European Hospital and Healthcare Federation (HOPE) Exchange programme. Together with Chalmers University of Technology, Region Västra Götaland is the proud host of this year’s edition.
An intense program has been prepared by the Region bearing in mind the main topic, innovation. Sahlgrenska International Care was one of the recent stops on their month long journey. We started off with introducing them to our assignment, exporting healthcare services in Region Västra Götaland to customers worldwide. Being the link between the international customer and the local units offering the exported services, the crucial part is to develop long-lasting relationships with both parties. To get an idea of how a collaboration can look like they got to meet one of each. We invited Petra Vestlund, organ coordinator at the Transplant Institute, and a doctor from Saudi Arabia currently enrolled as a resident at the Department of Gynaecology.
Every meeting enabling the exchange of experiences between countries is invaluable. Cecilio and Brigitte, thank you for visiting us. We hope that you left our office with a better understanding of why healthcare export is important to our region’s development. Next week they will present their findings – looking forward to that!
