The first day of lectures of the NOF Congress in Tallinn

Today on May 2nd, is the first day of lectures of the NOF Congress in Tallinn. The congress hosts a scientific program including 30 scientific sessions and 75 invited speakers. Approximately 400 delegates, physicians and scientists from the Nordic countries as well as the Netherlands, Estonia and neighbouring countries are expected to attend the congress.

Örjan Berlin (MD, PhD) from Sahlgrenska University Hospital gave an appreciated speech today entitled Bone anchored amputation prostheses in transfemoral amputees – A prospective 2 year study by Örjan Berlin, Rickard Brånemark, Peter Bergh, Björn Gunterberg, Kerstin Hagberg and Björn Rydevik.

The audience appreciated the animation of the surgical technique and the video sequences showing the patient’s much improved function. Several pertinent questions were raised and made the following discussion very vivid. In the booth of Sahlgrenska I.C. we have had visitors from several countries interested in the treatment of osseointegration. The system was presented by Mr Thomas Müller from Sweden, who talked about the benefits of using a bone-anchored prosthesis and also demonstrated how to take the prosthesis on and off.
