Apply for Specialist Training in Neurosurgery

Are you a doctor with at least 2 years of experience, interested in treating complex and severe cases in a technically advanced environment? We have an open position for a Swedish Specialist Medical Training Program (SMTP) in Neurosurgery starting in 2020.

Join our team

The Neurosurgery unit, is a part of the Department of Neurology, at one of Northern Europe’s largest hospitals. Sahlgrenska University Hospital is the national referral centre for many medical specialties. By joining our team in Gothenburg, you will be introduced to the full spectrum of neurological conditions and get access to an Imaging and Intervention Centre equipped  with the most powerful MRI yet in Europe.

In the Neurosurgery specialist training (residency) you will get the opportunity to treat neurological diseases for both adult and pediatric patients, often by collaborating cross departments. Together we are driving the advancements in the neurosurgery field forward, by conducting research on epilepsy, neurointensive care and hydrocephalus.

We work in multidisciplinary teams, where each profession is equally important. And always with a person-centred approach. We believe that involving the patients and their close ones in the development of their care, is key.

Is this you?

As with all specialty fields, there is not one right profile. In fact, there are many. What unites us who choose to become Neurosurgeons, is the interest for the field itself.

You should be interested in taking on severe and complex cases, as this is something we are exposed to every day. As neurosurgery is a technichally demanding surgical specialty, other qualities we are looking for are:

–       a high degree of manual dexterity

–       good hand-eye co-ordination and visuo-spatial ability

–       a balance between confidence and caution

Read more about the program layout and application process to see if this is the right position for you. Remember to submit your application no later than August 31st 2019.

After the deadline we will review the applications and select a few candidates for Skype interviews in September. Those who succesfully pass that step will be invited to an on site assessment in Gothenburg during the fall of 2019.

Our Education coordinator is happy to help if you have any questions.

We are looking forward to getting to know you!
