Official delegation from Turkey visited Sahlgrenska I.C.
On October 10, Sahlgrenska I.C. received a large delegation from Turkey representing the Health Tourism Business Council in association with the Turkish Ministry of Economy. The council is operating under the umbrella of Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey.
The main aim of the visit was to present our organizations and to discuss collaboration in the healthcare sector and possible cooperation opportunities between our countries’ health communities. The organization Skåne Care from Region Skåne was invited and participated in the meeting.
Massive interest in mother-to-daughter uterus transplants
One week has passed since the world’s first mother-to-daughter uterus transplant was performed at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. It was a result of research financed by and carried out at the University of Gothenburg, who has also published a video about the research project. The worldwide media coverage of this event has been massive.
In Sweden alone between 2 000 and 3 000 women of childbearing age cannot have children because they lack a uterus. Brånemark now associate professor
Dr. Rickard Brånemark, director of the Centre of Orthopedic Osseointegration (COO) at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, has been announced associate professor in Orthopaedic surgery at the Sahlgrenska Academy at Gothenburg University.
Gastric pacemakers are becoming more accessible
Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg is the only Swedish hospital with the ability to treat delayed gastric emptying, Gastroparesis, with a so-called gastric pacemaker. Hans Abrahamsson, professor in gastroenterology at Sahlgrenska performed the first treatment with a gastric pacemaker in 1995 and electrical stimulation of the stomach has proved to be a very efficient way to treat diabetics with issues such as chronic vomiting and nausea.
Lecture about improved function and quality of life among patients treated with osseointegration
Today on the last day of the lectures at the 56th NOF Congress in Tallinn, Kerstin Caine-Winterberger, occupational therapist at Sahlgrenska University Hospital gave a lecture entitled Rehabilitation and Outcome after osseointegration on the upper limbs by Kerstin Caine-Winterberger, Rickard Brånemark and Stewe Jönsson.
Presentation by Kerstin Hagberg from the Dept of Prosthetics and Orthotics at SU at the NOF congress
Today, on May 3rd, Kerstin Hagberg (RPT, PhD) from the Dept of Prosthetics and Orthotics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital gave her presentation at the NOF congress. The title was Bone-anchored artificial limb – prospective outcome on health-related quality of life, prosthetic use and mobility for patients with transfemoral amputation treated with osseointegrated prostheses by Kerstin Hagberg, Örjan Berlin and Rickard Brånemark.
The first day of lectures of the NOF Congress in Tallinn
Today on May 2nd, is the first day of lectures of the NOF Congress in Tallinn. The congress hosts a scientific program including 30 scientific sessions and 75 invited speakers. Approximately 400 delegates, physicians and scientists from the Nordic countries as well as the Netherlands, Estonia and neighbouring countries are expected to attend the congress.
Sahlgrenska I.C. is participating in the NOF 2012 exhibition in Tallinn
Sahlgrenska I.C. is participating in the NOF 2012 exhibition in Tallinn, Estonia 1-4 May. Together with researchers from Sahlgrenska University Hospital we will present the unique treatment with osseointegrated prostheses. Three lecturers will give speaches about the treatment and present the latest research on this method. There will also be an opportunity to meet a patient who has undergone the treatment.
Qvist points out the importance of informed choices
At the Annual General Meeting (Bolagsdagen) of Region Västra Götaland’s wholly owned subsidiaries, Sahlgrenska I.C. CEO Marika Qvist took the opportunity to – once again – stress the necessity of informed choices regarding highly specialized healthcare in the region. “We are suppose to be the best available option – but not for everything”, she told the audience, which among others consisted of the Executive Board of Region Västra Götaland.
